DAVID SANCIOUS & TONE: “TRUE STORIES”
PURCHASE DAVID’S LEGENDARY FULLY REMASTERED RECORDING, “TRUE STORIES”
Considered by many to be in the top 10 of progressive rock records released in the 1970’s, David Sancious’ True Stories remains to this day a classic among fans and prog rock aficionados. This newly remastered update by Robert Frazza only further highlights the brilliant arrangements, great compositions, and a wide sonic palette of the tracks.
When David Sancious left Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band to pursue a solo career in 1975, his fans tended to assume that his own albums would be more Springsteen-inspired. It was a logical assumption, but far from accurate. In fact, David’s group Tone was formed to join the music landscape of elite prog rock giants such as Yes, Bruford, Genesis, ELP, Gentle Giant and even early Journey. Any remnants of Springsteen had by now long ago been dispelled.
Recorded for Arista in 1978 by Eddy Offord, True Stories is pure progressive rock at its finest and though True Stories contains a few instrumentals, most of the tunes feature the brilliant Scottish vocalist Alex Ligertwood (of Santana and Brian Auger fame). A bluesy, gritty belter, Ligertwood delivers incredible vocal performances on tracks like "Sound of Love," "Ever the Same," and "Matter of Time."
True Stories is a tribute to the brilliance of David Sancious and his well-earned place as a multi-instrumentalist and composer as well as one of the top sidemen in all of music having played and recorded with The E Street Band, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Seal, Eric Clapton and an array of other A-List musicians.
